While many Wisconsinites will insist that the Old Fashioned was born in the Dairy State, its origin can be traced to Kentucky. Legend has it that a Bourbon whiskey cocktail made with sugar, water, and bitters was first concocted by a bartender at the Pendennis Club, a gentlemen’s club (which, in the 19th century, had a different connotation than it does today) founded in 1881 in Louisville, Kentucky. While it may be true that the Old Fashioned was invented in Kentucky, I think we all can agree that it was perfected in Wisconsin.
