Throwback Thursday: Utthita Parsvakonasana (Extended Side Angle Pose) On The Plaza
On July 12, Madison yogis met on The Plaza to feel the breeze and sunshine on their skin while practicing asanas.
The pose pictured above is Utthita Parsvakonasana (oo-TEE-tah parsh-vah-cone-AHS-anna) or Extended Side Angle Pose.
utthita = extended
parsva = side, flank
kona = angle
This pose works wonders as it strengthens the legs, knees and ankles and it provides a deep stretch in the spine, waist, chest and shoulders. It expands the lungs with deep breathing and increases stamina.
